Smith Design was challenged with developing a full brand world, in order to bring this exciting and innovative product within the DTC Pet category to market.
Strategic Branding, Positioning and Naming
To build Nextrition, a disruptive DTC pet food brand, Smith Design began with a thorough audit and deep immersion into the pet food category, specifically leading DTC competitors, to understand visual codes, consumer behaviors, and emerging trends. From this foundation, we developed the brand positioning, crafted multiple naming territories, and created the final name and identity for this innovative new brand.
All naming, positioning, and the brand’s visual strategy were tested and validated with core consumers to ensure clarity, differentiation, and relevance. Throughout the process, Smith Design focused on shaping a visual and verbal system that clearly communicates the brand’s unique point of difference and supports a seamless end-to-end experience.
Packaging Design
Extending the brand identity into packaging included designing full-panel layouts to effectively communicate product benefits and support purchase decisions made in a digital-first environment. The unboxing experience and online visual expression were thoughtfully crafted to reinforce the premium, transparent nature of the brand.
Brand Guidelines
The brand identity system establishes a clear direction for typography, color, photography, and illustration—ensuring every touchpoint is executed with consistency and impact while conveying the brand’s mission to craft wholesome food made with real meat, fruits, and vegetables.
Digital & Social Media
Smith Design developed and executed the digital strategy for both the Nextrition website and its social media presence, creating a cohesive online ecosystem to kick-start marketing efforts and support the brand’s DTC growth. This included content strategy, visual direction, and the development of digital assets that bring the brand to life across channels.
Pentawards
Nextrition earned Silver in the Pet Products category at the 2024 Pentawards.
The genesis and development of this new pet food brand were achieved through a comprehensive approach, including naming, research, brand identity, packaging, and online experience.
