Smith Design is a WBENC full-service Brand Design Agency based in NJ with over 40 years of experience in creating breakthrough visual solutions for brands to win in the marketplace. In addition to strategic brand design (visual branding, packaging, graphics and structural concepts) we also extend visual and verbal strategy to various digital and physical touchpoints including social content development, web sites, in-store POS, activation, corporate identities, style guides, and environments.

We are looking for a result-driven Director of Strategy & Insight that will strategically define how brands can use the extraordinary power of design to drive better business outcomes.  The ideal candidate has confidence in classic brand strategy such as brand positioning/repositioning, innovation strategy, category vision and brand architecture as well as insight based portolio strategy. The Director of Strategy & Insight’s responsibilities include conducting extensive research, analyzing findings, makinging recommendations, presenting to clients and briefing creatives.  We are looking for a candidate who is a strategic thinker with a knack for uncovering consumer insights that inform strategy development. Ultimately, the outstanding Director of Strategy & Insight should have strong interpersonal communication skills, research skills, an interest in creative branding and marketing with an analytical mindset and be an excellent storyteller.

We have a range of exciting challenges and briefs that include revolutionary brand redesigns for complex branded package design systems, as well as brand refreshes that help brands retain relevancy while growing new audiences with product innovation. Our work and clients span many different industries and categoires including food and beverages, health & wellness/personal care, Pharma/OTC, household, and electronics. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement successful campaigns through a variety of growth marketing tactics and channels including email, website, social media, advertising, industry publications and more.
  • Develop marketing and outreach strategies to renew and achieve new business, build meaningful client relationships.
  • Provide support with direction, development and execution of brand marketing initiatives.
  • Attend relevant trade shows and events.
  • Lead the creation of all strategic materials including competitive audits, retail and ecommerce audits, landscape assessment, identifying whitespace opportunities, and brand positioning.
  • Monitor and track competitive and industry trends, making recommendations where appropriate to ensure communications and campaigns remain relevant and fresh.
  • Brainstorm new growth strategies and creative executions.
  • Research and write content on relevant industry and cultural trends.
  • Analyze and report on campaign performance and identify opportunities for improved open, click-thru and conversion rates
  • Be able and willing to create digital marketing content including social media, case studies, and blog articles when time allows.
  • Assist in copywriting for client projects.
  • Play a key role in client presentations, owning and delivering strategic portion of the project.
  • Staying up to date on consumer research and market trends.
  • Identifying insights, challenges and opportunities.
  • Writing compelling brand stories.

Job Specifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience business, marketing, branding, communication or related field.
  • Experience monitoring, analyzing and reporting on marketing efforts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to interact and partner with co-workers, clients and prospective clients across a various roles and industries.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, efficient and a natural problem-solver.
  • Must be a self-starter able to work with minimal supervision to initiate and manage projects through completion.
  • Great time management and multi-tasking skills; ability to manage multiple initiatives and meet deadlines.
  • A curious marketer driven to try new strategies and constantly improve every stage of the funnel.
  • Background in a creative agency, B2B marketing, and/or the CPG industry preferred.
